Description
The Arts Center and the Hart Cluett Museum are partnering for an adventure through Troy’s history focusing on the women vital to shaping our town. The camp will take place at the Arts Center and the Hart Cluett Museum and include walking tours and a behind the scenes look at collections. Learn about our shared history and make art inspired by the people, places and stories of Troy.
Let’s Strike!
Kate Mullany, from Troy NY, helped women in factories unionize and fight for fair wages. Learn about Troy’s factories, women in the workforce and how they fought for better wages and working conditions.
Just like Kate, we’ll fight for our rights for better pay! And allowance! Or, find your own true cause. We’ll paint signs, make sashes and hats, and parade through Troy.
Gold Leaf Picture Frames
The Gilded Age was filmed in Troy and celebrates a time in American history when the rich built elaborate houses with gold-gilded decor. We’ll explore the Hart Cluett house, learn about the family, and build and guild our own picture frames with gold for our own family portraits.
Make A Collar
Collars were an essential industry to women throughout the history of Troy. It not only gave women jobs, but a community in which they worked and supported one another.
We’ll form our own factory assembly line and make collars and cuffs and then adorn them with fun fabrics, buttons and lace. Work like you’re part of Troy’s history and how together women buttoned up their place in a Troy’s history.
