Troy Glow 2024 is a public art festival that will light up downtown Troy this November 1st to 10th. Visitors will enjoy light installations and shop and dine at local businesses. Troy Glow is organized around the end of Daylight Savings Time in the northeast to cheerfully welcome winter’s darkness.

By adding beautiful, glowing art throughout downtown, Troy Glow will give residents and visitors a reason to celebrate Upstate New York’s longer, darker evenings and explore Troy’s vibrant nightlife.

What is Troy Glow 2024?

Troy Glow 2024 is a light festival taking place November 1st – 10th, 2024 in Troy, New York. Up to 10 light art installations will be commissioned and sited around downtown Troy. Projects can be viewed anytime during these dates. During the festival, three public events will be hosted by festival organizers on FRI, Nov 1st, SUN, Nov. 3rd, and SAT, Nov. 9th. Event details will be announced in April 2024.

Is Troy Glow 2024 free?

Yes! Troy Glow 2024 installations and events will be free and open to the public.

How can I see Troy Glow 2024?

Come to Troy during the festival. Projects will be lit nightly from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. November 1st – 10th. Projects can be viewed anytime during these hours. Sunset is around 4:30p.m. this time of year and twilight lasts approximately 90 minutes. Festival events will include guided tours.

Who organizes Troy Glow 2024?

Troy Glow is organized by the Arts Center of the Capital Region’s Troy Public Art Program. The project is supported by a grant awarded to the Arts Center by Empire State Development and I LOVE NY/New York State’s Division of Tourism through the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, and in partnership with the City of Troy and the American Recovery Plan Act.

Who are the Troy Glow 2024 curators?

Troy Glow 2024 curators are Adam Frelin and Judie Gilmore.

Adam Frelin is an artist based in Troy, New York who has shown widely at venues such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, and Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. He has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, and College Art Association and has completed residencies at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, MacDowell Colony, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Yaddo, among others. He has published two books of photography and has had several public artworks commissioned throughout the world. In 2016 he served as the Lead Artist for Breathing Lights, a temporary art installation that involved illuminating abandoned buildings with a breathing effect created with light

Judie Gilmore is currently the Director of Public Art + Placemaking at the Arts Center of the Capital Region. She recently served as the Director of Russell Sage College’s Opalka Gallery, where she created a vibrant community arts venue through innovative programs and partnerships. Previously, Gilmore served as the Project Director of Breathing Lights, a $1 million public art project that illuminated hundreds of abandoned buildings in New York’s Capital Region and showcased an arts-based approach to stimulating local and regional revitalization. Prior, she served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Philadelphia Mural Arts where she developed large-scale art initiatives that focused on broad social issues.
