STUDIOS

The art studios, galleries, and performance spaces in The Arts Center of The Capital Region are home to classes, camps, and events.  On this page, you can find out what happens in our studios, and view upcoming classes and events for each space.

Some of these rooms can be rented for private functions.  Click here for information about renting one of our studios.

BLACK BOX THEATER

Our 1800 square-foot black box theatre seats up to 99 people and is equipped with a professional sound and lighting system, a digital projection system, and two dressing rooms with private restroom facilities.

Theater seating is collapsable, allowing the space to be rented as a private party room suitable for receptions and sit-down dinners.

DANCE STUDIO

Get ready to move your body! Supported by a sprung floor, ballet barres, mirrors, and a sound system, you can learn many styles of traditional and contemporary dance.

This ballet, barre, yoga, and dance studio can be rented for private rehearsals, classes, and other events.

NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR DANCERS:

The Arts Center is offering dancers, dance companies, and choreographers studio space for the low, low cost of $0/hour to develop or rehearse new work with the intention of future performance. This dance rental assistance program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

Renters who fail to show up for their reservation will no longer be eligible for the $0/hour rate. Renters who use the dance studio for non-dance work will be charged $40/hour.

DRAWING

In our drawing studio, you’ll learn to transform two-dimensional surfaces with pencil, pen and ink charcoal, pastels, and more!

From basic mark-making to photorealistic renderings of landscapes and people, the skills learned here will give you the foundation to create limitless images in a variety of media.

KITCHEN

Our kitchen is the perfect place to discover a love for all things culinary. With a 4-burner gas stove and a commercial 3-bay sink, we’ve got plenty of space for you to practice prepping and cooking a simple snack or a multi-course meal.

The kitchen is also available for rental on an hourly basis in conjunction with events or on its own.

PAINTING

POTTERY STUDIO B

Get ready to get your hands dirty. In this ceramics and pottery studio, students will learn to shape clay on a pottery wheel and with hand-building techniques that have been refined over millennia. Whether you’re making vessels for use or sculptures for display, this studio is fully equipped for beginners and experts alike. With our Kiln and Glazing Studio, you will be able to complete your entire project in-house.

KILN & GLAZING

Here, large kilns convert shaped clay into pottery. You can learn about and experiment with different types of glazes to waterproof and decorate your ceramic creations.

Stained Glass

In the stained glass studio, students mold glass and metal together to manipulate light itself!

By learning to cut, arrange, and join pieces of colorful stained glass, you can create charming mosaics or representational scenes to adorn your windows or garden.

This glass art studio is available for hourly rentals when not in use.

WOODWORKING STUDIO

In the wood shop, you’ll develop skills to turn a humble piece of wood into a magnificent piece of art. Using hand tools and power tools, and the timeless techniques of joinery, carving, and carpentry, you can build anything from a picture frame to a picnic table.

The woodworking studio can be rented when not in use by another class or event. Click here for details.
